Gestión en Línea's token, and the Boletín Judicial's edicts
Why the Gestión en Línea lookup works with a token that expires after ten minutes, and where the Boletín Judicial lives today: it is no longer a separate paper but a section of La Gaceta.

The Judiciary’s Sistema de Gestión en Línea (pjenlinea.poder-judicial.go.cr/GestionEnLinea/) is a web application with no published contract or official documentation for its lookup: the system’s address has already changed once — from «pjenlinea3» to «pjenlinea» — and may change again.
Before showing a case file, the system issues an anonymous public token that authorises the lookup with no username or password, and that token expires after 600 seconds (measured against the portal on 10 September 2026). If a lookup opened more than ten minutes ago stops responding, reloading the page makes the portal request a new one.
The other system this guide covers is not a case lookup but edicts: since Acuerdo 18-2023, the Boletín Judicial stopped being published separately and is now the Judiciary's notices section inside La Gaceta, the official gazette the Imprenta Nacional prints.
Three things that are not a bug
None of the three is a browser or case-file problem: it is how the system is built today, measured against the portal.
A 600-second token
Gestión en Línea's token
It is issued on its own, with no password, and expires after 600 seconds. It is a technical detail, not a formality: nobody asks for it or types it.
The security filter
The site sits behind a security filter that, on some routes, answers with its own page and a 200 code: the page loading does not guarantee it carries the case file’s data.
The edict lives in La Gaceta, not on the judicial portal
Since Acuerdo 18-2023, the Boletín Judicial is the «PODER JUDICIAL — AVISOS» section of La Gaceta, printed by the Imprenta Nacional.
Both systems — Gestión en Línea and La Gaceta — belong to the institution, but they share neither a portal nor a way to search.
How to use each system
The first four steps are Gestión en Línea's; the edict is searched separately, one daily issue at a time.
Open Gestión en Línea from the Judiciary's site
The system lives at pjenlinea.poder-judicial.go.cr/GestionEnLinea/; the address has already changed once and can change again with no notice.
Let the portal issue the public token
Before showing any case, the system asks for an anonymous token — no username, no password — that authorizes the lookup.
Reload if the lookup stops responding
The token expires after 600 seconds; a page opened more than ten minutes ago that no longer answers is fixed by reloading it, typing nothing but the number again.
Search for the edict in the day's La Gaceta issue
The Imprenta Nacional publishes each issue as a PDF by date — about 10 MB —: you have to open the day’s issue and go to the «PODER JUDICIAL — AVISOS» section.

- The date of the issue in which the notice appeared.
What neither one does
Before assuming something failed, these limits are worth knowing.
- There's no public, documented API for Gestión en Línea: route names and the host can change with no notice.
- The Imprenta Nacional publishes no API for searching inside its issues: the practical way is to open the day’s PDF and search the text inside the file.
- The daily issue weighs around 10 MB; checking it by hand every day for more than a handful of cases is not practical.
- Gestión en Línea publishes no terms of use or legal notice for its lookup (checked on 10 September 2026).
The two chores — remembering to log in every day, and reading a 10 MB PDF looking for a name — are exactly what can be automated.
